The first time you have a panic attack is surreal. Your heart speeds up even though you can’t seem to take a breath. You become lightheaded while your head simultaneously fills with dread. Even if it only lasts for 10 seconds, it feels like an eternity.
Unfortunately, the first panic attack is rarely the last. As terrifying an experience as it is, it can also become quite routine. They’re no more enjoyable, but when a panic attack tears into the middle of an otherwise-normal day, you simply think to yourself, “Here we go again.”
